The City of Huntsville is taking the next step in strengthening its identity as a music destination by launching a new study to measure the economic impact and growth of the local music industry.
City leaders have entered into an agreement with Sound Diplomacy to conduct a 12-week analysis of Huntsville’s music ecosystem. The study will assess how the industry has evolved since the city’s first music audit in 2018 and help guide future investments, policies, and partnerships.
That original audit laid the groundwork for the city’s expanding music scene. It helped shape the creation of the Huntsville Music Office and provided a roadmap for supporting artists, venues, and creative entrepreneurs. Since then, Huntsville has seen major developments, including the opening of The Orion Amphitheater, the launch of festivals such as South Star Festival, and expanded programming at the Von Braun Center.
Mayor Tommy Battle said music plays a key role in the city’s continued growth and economic development.
“Music is part of the economic engine that powers Huntsville,” Battle said. “This updated study ensures we continue making informed decisions as our city and music industry evolve.”
The study will include a comprehensive database and an interactive map of Huntsville’s music assets, along with case studies highlighting major venues and festivals. It will also measure direct and indirect economic impacts, including jobs, tourism, and business development.
Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella said the goal is to build a sustainable and inclusive music ecosystem that benefits the entire community.
City leaders say the findings will shape Huntsville’s next music strategy and help ensure the growing industry continues to create opportunity, support local talent, and enhance the quality of life for residents across the city.
