HUNTSVILLE, AL — As Huntsville’s celebrated Orion Amphitheater marks its 100th show, city officials and venue developers are seizing the moment to aim even higher for the city’s music scene.
Earlier this week, The Venue Group (TVG)—the management team behind Orion—announced plans, in partnership with the City of Huntsville, to explore the development of a new mid-sized music venue with a capacity of 2,500 to 3,000 people. The move seeks to fill a gap in the area’s live-music infrastructure and build on Orion’s success.
Since opening in 2022, the Orion Amphitheater has become a cultural powerhouse in Huntsville, welcoming over 626,000 visitors, generating $45 million in revenue, and producing a total economic impact of $131 million. The venue’s achievements include multiple accolades and nominations for outdoor music venues nationwide.
Citing Huntsville’s growing reputation as a music destination, TVG Managing Partner Ben Lovett emphasized the importance of expanding the city’s entertainment offerings. “Huntsville’s commitment to its music ecosystem is unlike any other, and we’re thrilled to now explore another world-class venue,” Lovett said.
Mayor Tommy Battle echoed this enthusiasm, stating: “The Orion has become a source of pride for Huntsville. As we celebrate its 100th performance, we’re excited to take the next step in strengthening our city’s cultural infrastructure…”
This initiative not only broadens Huntsville’s live-entertainment landscape but also aligns with broader cultural investments such as the promotion of the Huntsville Music Office, strategic planning under The BIG Picture master plan, and enhancements to other venue infrastructure.
