One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. We have had some very cold weather with lots of snow and rain. It has been a while since we have seen a snow like the one we had last week. It was beautiful but I am glad it only lasted a few days. I am a true Southerner, born in Tennessee and I don’t like the cold weather very much.

My family eats out a lot and does not cook as often as we should. Most of the buffet restaurants have gone out of business and it is hard to find good vegetables. A restaurant on airport road called Rolo’s has some good country food and a friendly staff that provides great service.

POLITICS

The word “Politics” just will not let my mind rest. I was clearing out a lot of papers that I have been keeping for years and I found a whole box full of articles on Political Leaders committing crimes and being arrested. There were also a lot of articles of personal matters of politicians being made public by other parties to ruin their reputation and to get others elected.

The words “Democrat” and “Republican” seems nothing more than words. There is so much corruption going on in politics that it makes you wonder what this world is coming to. It seems that so many things that have been in place for years are being changed for the worse. I think any changes being proposed to the Constitution should be studied and discussed in great detail by both parties before being voted on. “Money” is the big word in politics today and I believe that some politicians may be getting paid for their vote on these and other bills. “Democracy” is a big word for both parties.

LAWMAKERS

The State Legislature begins an annual session on Monday. They are faced with decisions on pistol permits, gambling and COVID funds. The Legislative session could last up to 15 weeks as most of the 140 Lawmakers are getting ready to campaign for re-election for 4 more years. The primary is set for May 24th. Before the election try to follow how these candidates voted on the issues to see if they deserve your vote.

PARKING GARAGE DOWNTOWN

The downtown city parking garage being torn down just will not leave my mind. I wanted to meet with the Mayor and his Assistant to talk about this but I have not been able to meet with them. I talked to two men in front of City Hall last week that were preparing to fence the area off as the city has already stopped using the parking garage.

The new City Hall building they plan to build on the parking garage property will hurt the parking for downtown and the courthouse and will affect many businesses on the square. I asked what is going to happen to the current City Hall property and no one seems to know. I am sure they know but just not letting the public know. This is an election year so remember all the council members who voted for this and the many other crazy things going on in our city.  Love you all and have a blessed week.
