HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mayor Tommy Battle, members of the Huntsville City Council, and the Huntsville Beautification Board honored more than 347 properties during the 50th annual Beautification Awards ceremony, celebrating residents and organizations whose landscaping and upkeep make the city more vibrant.
Launched in 1975, the Beautification Awards recognize businesses, churches, schools, and community organizations for exceptional landscaping and maintenance. The program is one of Huntsville’s longest-running community traditions.
“Every awardee sets a powerful example of what it means to take pride in our community,” Mayor Battle said. “Their commitment to beautification, cleanliness and environmental care not only enhances the quality of life for all of us, but also helps make Huntsville a greener, healthier and more sustainable city.”
Awards and Recognition
This year’s Mayor’s Award went to Flint River Animal Hospital. Special recognition was also given to U.S. District Judges Lynwood Smith Jr. and Liles C. Burke.
District winners included:
- District 1: St. Joseph Catholic Church
- District 2: Gannet BioChem
- District 3: Legacy at Jones Farm Apartments
- District 4: Huntsville Area Association of Realtors
- District 5: Bridge Street Town Centre
Beautification Board Vice President Acacia Moore said competition was fierce.
“The Board set very demanding requirements that must be met to win an award. Judging this year was very competitive and choosing the best of the best was often a difficult decision.”
