Rising Star: Tate Horton Honored as Freshman Scholar-Athlete of the Year

A young athlete is making waves both on and off the court, earning national recognition for his outstanding achievements in academics and athletics. In Washington, D.C., The National Alliance of African American Athletes named Tate Horton the “Freshman Scholar Athlete of the Year.”

A 6’2” freshman basketball player at The Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, Horton has set his sights on an ambitious future. Living in Owens Cross Roads, AL, just south of Huntsville, he has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his education and athletic pursuits. With a strong academic focus, he aspires to play basketball at Stanford University while pursuing a career in cybersecurity in Silicon Valley.

Over the weekend, Horton had the unique opportunity to learn from some of the best scholars in sports, including Notre Dame Football Coach Marcus Freeman, Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, NFL veteran Lorenzo Alexander, and Arizona Cardinals tight end Elijah Higgins. Gaining insight from these seasoned professionals has further fueled his drive to excel in academics and athletics.

As he prepares for the upcoming season, Horton remains committed to improving his skills on the court and in the classroom. His dedication and determination inspire student-athletes everywhere, proving that excellence is achievable through hard work and perseverance.
