Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Hope everyone had a happy and blessed Thanksgiving. My daughter in law and son has a big Thanksgiving dinner for our family every year. Being with family and giving thanks is so important as we all have a lot to be thankful for every day.
Thanks to Speakin Out News and to the Old Huntsville Magazine for sharing the news in the community. They have been like doctors to me as they help keep me stress free.
I am proud to see the students out of school for a few days as they have had some stressful times with the masks and the virus. I pray that next year will be better for everyone.
Can I keep quiet about our city on Thanksgiving? I wish I could, but many things are happening fast and are on the agenda around the holidays without public knowledge. It is very hard to get a press conference with any of the TV stations anymore. They only want to have press conferences with elected official and report how great things are.
CITY COUNCIL MEETING
The City Council meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays thru December. There was a big meeting last week on the parking garage. Having attended many County meetings, I was asked by Commissioner Dale Strong to talk to the mayor to try to save the parking garage as it was needed for parking for the courthouse. I was told by the mayor at the last council meeting that Dale Strong said he didn’t care about keeping the parking garage. I find that hard to believe.
I would like for the mayor to forgive me for being so hard on him about tearing the parking garage down. I got stirred up because I believe it is a waste of millions of dollars to relocate City Hall to the parking garage property and not just build it back where it is today. No one has told us yet what is going to be on the property where the current City Hall sits today.
There is so much annexing and changing of ordinances that I question do we have enough city employees to take care of what we already have. Please, I beg you to go look at the property being built on Governors Drive in front of Post Office. It is outrageous that our leaders and planners did not know better than to build so close to the road that you cannot see around 14th Avenue.
PUBLIC BUILDING AUTHORITY
During the last city council meeting they appointed the Public Building Authority committee to be the ones responsible for building the new city hall and tearing the old one down. This is the same committee that handled the building of the new jail that resulted in several major lawsuits and ran over budget by many millions of dollars. This authority was assigned to the City Hall project to keep the public from knowing how much money this mess will cost us and to help keep the leaders from being responsible and accountable to the public.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
