Alabama A&M University (AAMU) held an unveiling ceremony for the William Hooper Councill Memorial and a wreath laying in Memorial of Dr. William Hooper Councill, the founder, president, and first principal of Huntsville Normal School, now Alabama A&M University. The unveiling and wreath laying was held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., on “The Block” campus of AAMU.

The wreath laying ceremony. The Masons also presented a $10,000.00 check to the AAMU Foundation. The unveiling of the artist render- ing of the William Hooper Councill Memorial was conducted by AAMU President Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., Mr. Austin Smith, President of the AAMU Student Government Association (SGA), and Ms. Mary Jones Moore, President of the AAMU National Alumni Association.
The Memorial is presently under construction and is being built on the site where Dr. Councill and his wife, Maria, are entombed. Dr. Daniel Wims, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and Research, presiding over the event.
